Dr. Wilma Jo Smetter joined the Santa Maria Independent School District Family in January 2009.
During her 28 years in education, she has been a teacher, middle school assistant principal, middle school principal, high school principal, and an Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. She has also been an adjunct professor for the University of Texas-Brownsville, presented at the Texas and National GEAR UP Conferences and serves as the Texas Superintendent Exam Reviewer for the Education Service Center XIII in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Smetter has an Ed. D. from the University of Houston in Curriculum and Instruction. She is married, and they have an 11 year old son. Her son keeps her well connected to the educational needs of the children we see everyday in our classrooms.
